Berghs School of Communication

Together with Håkan Lidbo and Kim Petersen, I held a course at the two year-graphic design program at Berghs during autumn 2011. It was a cutting edge course on audio-visual media and motion graphics including video projection mapping. With inspiration from Johannes LDC Guerreiro. Video up soon!

Glitch video and post production for popstar Robyn

Director Johan Söderberg asked me to do some post production on visuals he had created for Robyn and her USA and Europe tours with the album Body Talk. For the track Fembot I also created a few glitch videos made with the lead synthesizer melody, as well as a few videos based on a pure kickdrum, to be included in Söderbergs compositions.

White Noise Black Noise (A tribute to Rainer Maria Rilke*)

40 minutes audio-visual performance, 100% original work. This was recorded at Vision´R Festival, in Paris 14 may 2011.

The work is about the increasing awareness of subliminal impressions, and my own love/hate relationship with the urban lifestyle, clashing with an urge for an organic space of harmony, where more intuitive decisions can evolve in a state of flow and presentness.

The base material is audio and video recordings, motion graphics and synthetic audio, made in Berlin, Copenhagen, New York City, Paris and Stockholm. Softwares and plug ins used: Modul8, Ableton Live, Logic, Pro Tools, After Effects, Final Cut, FreeFrame and Waves.

The performance works for a seated audience within a fitting art/music context, but it might be even more suitable for a bar, lounge or dancefloor in related style.

H-A-C-K, Färgfabriken

“H-A-C-K is a threedimensional sound- and videosculpture by electronicaproducers Andreas Tilliander and Håkan Lidbo together with audio-visual artist Joel Dittrich.

In H-A-C-K music is created by all sounds accompanying old analogue stereos, what we usually think of as noise. These mostly unwanted sounds are here composed in a way that makes them ring beautifully instead.

In the exhibition the viewer is struck by a dense mass of impressions. Since the sound comes from several different sets of speakers, which all have a different character of sound and are placed at various heights and depths, the impression is multidimensional. Furthermore if you move around in the room an interactive experience is created where you discover completely new sounds and soundcombinations. The sounds will be visible on a number of TVs connected to the noise producing apparatuses.

A set of performances where the participating artists and invited guests play the installation is also planned during the exhibition period. H-A-C-K is exhibited in Färgfabrikens projectroom 25 aug. – 16 okt. 2011. Opening party and performance thursday 25 aug. 19:00 CET +1 – free entrance!” (Text by Färgfabriken)

Denna kurs ingår i paketet Digital Creative I-II tillsammans med Interactive Design, men kan även läsas fristående. Kursen ger dig de nödvändiga grunderna för att kunna arbeta fram och utveckla idéer i rörlig grafik och video, anpassad för olika typer skärmar som dator, smartphone, storbildsprojektion, video mapping, live visuals/VJ-ing och audiovisual performance. Att arbeta med ett aktivt förhållande till ljud/musik är ett av fundamenten i kursen. Detta genom att inte bara klippa i takt till ljud/musik, utan även söka djupare förhållanden mellan vad som ses och hörs – att jobba med vad som kallas intermodala förhållanden. Kursen är ett möte mellan estetik, teknik och teori med fokus på konstnärligt, kommunikativt och idéorienterat arbete.

Kursstart. Tisdag den 14 feb 2012 kl 18.00.

Kursfakta. Vi träffas en kväll i veckan, tisdagar mellan kl. 18.00-20.30, under 6 veckor. Du behöver också avsätta tid mellan träffarna.

Innehåll. Föreläsningar, workshops och eget arbete. Vi går igenom mjukvarorna After Effects, Modul8, MadMapper och hårdvaror som MIDI-controllers, converters, splitters samt ger köpråd.

Lärare. Kursen hålls av mig, Joel Dittrich.

Ansökan. För att bli antagen till kursen ställs inga formella krav, dock måste du ha grundläggande datorvana och tillgång till en egen Macintosh-laptop med OS X 10.6 eller nyare. Antalet platser är begränsat och antagning sker i den ordning ansökningarna kommer in.

Avgift. Studieavgiften för kursen är 4.800 kr (6 kvällar). Moms tillkommer med 1.200 kr. Kursen är inte studiemedelsberättigad.

Diplom. Alla elever erhåller diplom efter godkänd närvaro och arbetsinsats.

Audiovisual Production 180 ECTS, Högskolan Dalarna University College

“Vill Du komponera ljud/musik och bild? Med lika stor betoning på båda uttrycken? Det här programmet förbereder Dig för en sådan yrkesverksamhet. Och det ges i en unik utbildningsmiljö: Mediehuset i Falun.

Grundidén med det här programmet är att Du som student parallellt lär Dig två produktionsområden – ljud/musik och rörlig bild – som annars finns i skilda utbildningar. Uppdelningen är gammal och kommer från arbetsfördelningen i film- och tv-produktion, men i de nya teknologiska verktygen är ljud/musik- och bildskapande integrerade. Den tekniska landvinningen är en utgångspunkt för programmet – plus det faktum att många yngre personer är intresserade av att arbeta med både ljud/musik och bild.

Behärskning av båda dessa områden ska leda till att produktionerna blir konstnärligt bättre och kommunikationsmässigt effektivare. Stor vikt i undervisningen ligger på det egna skapandet – i både fritt valda produktioner och sådana som görs på beställning. Den kommunikativa förmågan är viktig för produktioner av alla slag och tillägnas i studierna både teoretiskt och praktisk.

Programmet är unikt på två sätt, dels genom att det inkluderar både ljud/musik och bild, dels genom blandningen av konstnärligt och kommersiellt.

Som student möter Du i programmet olika tillämpningsområden: Internetanpassade produktioner, musikvideos, audiovisuella installationer, reklamproduktioner, VJ-ing, etc. Denna bredd ska ge en god grund för varierad yrkesverksamhet inom det audiovisuella medieområdet. Samtidigt finns möjlighet till specialisering under programmets båda sista terminer.”

I was invited to Forsbergs School for Graphic Design and Advertising to teach. I started out with performing a short version of my audio-visual performance Alter Modern Times. Then I gave a lecture on the history of the expression, from early precedents to contemporary practitioners. The second lecture was a walk through the Modul8 software and the rest of the time was spent working practically.
